About the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club

Welcome to the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club or A.M.E.C. as we like to refer to it. Established in 1954 A.M.E.C. has been racing on the frozen lakes of northeastern New York State for going on 70 years now. We offer a variety of motorsport’s events throughout the year focusing mainly on Ice Racing.

Ice Racing is one of safest and most economical forms of road racing available today. This season we will offer 9 classes of wheel to wheel action (weather permitting). There is room for almost any car or driver on our varied length road course circuits. Participation can vary from from 40-75 drivers per event.

This seasons race cars will range from bone stock Street Legal Class cars all the way up to purpose built tube chassis ice racing machines. See rules for further descriptions of classes. With our crew of hardy volunteers we offer a winter racing experience that can not be matched. Our No-Contact Street Legal Classes are broken into four groups, one for un-studded snow tires on 2 wheel drive cars or for All wheel drive cars and the same types of cars running on studded tires available from Nokian Tire as the Hakkapeliita 9 or 10 model. Our race stud cars run tires from a number of manufacturers or can be hand built in your own garage. Please see rules for details.

This season we will offer 2 heat races for each class, generally running for 20 minutes in length as well as a Finale race which will be about 25 minutes in length. That’s over 1 hour of seat time in competition not including practice at the beginning of the day. Weather and ice conditions may affect schedule.

Races are normally held on Sunday only with several full weekend events added to the schedule as they are available. Please join us and check out the “Getting Started In Ice Racing” link located on the menu bar.

A.M.E.C. holds monthly meetings on the second Monday night of each month on Zoom. Please contact one of the officers by clicking the Contacts tab above to get information on how to attend these meetings.
